Every sperm is precious, the other side of the spectrum.

Women are constantly told, how ‘every egg is precious’ when we fight for abortion rights. When women want to have the power to decide what happens to their bodies, this is what we are told. Men can choose what happens to their bodies because they are not able to carry a child. Dennis Miller comments that his:

belief is that if men were the ones getting pregnant, abortions would be easier to get than food poisoning in Moscow.

Pay backSo if every egg is precious, surely every sperm is. After all you cannot reproduce without either so surely the sperm is just as important as the egg and should not be disclosed from the argument. It makes me wonder what kind of treatment men would get in comparison to women. What would men do if a law came out that limited masturbation? After all with every sperm being sacred, that means every time a man masturbated potential life is being wasted. If every sperm is sacred then surely this should be taken into consideration because if abortion, which is a procedure that determines whether potential life is continued or not, is murder, then so is masturbation.

It takes both a man and a woman to produce a baby. The mother provides the egg and carries the child for 9 months but without that ’sacred’ sperm then the blessed event would never come to light. With abortion, the cases are usually because of some of the following situations: single-parenthood, medical issues, not the right time and so on. Abortion is not a way to gain sexual release, while masturbation is. I am not saying that men can’t masturbate, all I am saying is that if you want to criticise women for the choices they make about the potential life they carry you should first think about the potential life you get rid of in the aid of sexual pleasure.

I realise I am going slightly over the top but I am only doing so to get my point across, I read an interesting article that showed, very well, the extremes there are:

Some extremely religious folks insist that even “the waste of the seed” is wrong because you are ending a potential life before it begins. Well if the definition of human life went all the way back to pre-conception, then I do believe women would be up for murder charges once a month and all men would probably be in trouble at least once a day (obviously, those of high school and college age are more likely to be up for multiple offenses). This, obviously, is not the case. It’s as impractical as it is untrue. An object is not alive until it can breathe, think, and survive on its own.

I found this particularly interesting, and funny, I’ve got to admit I had a bit of a giggle. But to round up, my point is that if every egg, that has the potential for life, is precious then why isn’t every sperm? Women cannot stop their periods from happening unless they are pregnant, anorexic or menopausal, men on the other hand can stop ‘wasting’ potential, so why are they not considered ‘baby killers’ like the women who fight for choice are. Many of those women do not ever want to have an abortion but they not only do not know what is going to happen to them in the future but they also do not want to inflict their personal choice on everyone else. If 70% of anti-choice leaders are men then you would think that 100% wouldn’t masturbate. I can’t say from personal experience, but my guess is that they don’t care either way.

  1. So glad you brought up that point, you are 100% correct.

Thank you for the comment. :)

  3. Hahaha. I also argued that topic with my BF and he keeps pointing out that even he doesn’t masturbate, it will still come out. He mentioned about having a wet dreams and he don’t like to experience it because it is messy in bed.

    Domeneque,
Just wondering whether you have read “Beauty and Misogyny: Harmful Cultural Practices in the West”? And if you have, what you think about it, as a feminist?
